The children thoroughly enjoyed exploring ice in our sensory tuff tray. They used their senses to investigate the texture, temperature and movement of the ice while developing communication, attention and turn-taking skills. Through child-led exploration, the children demonstrated curiosity, creativity and problem-solving as they experimented with different tools and techniques. These sensory experiences provide valuable opportunities for engagement, regulation and learning through play in a calm and supportive environment.

The children had a wonderful time exploring painting as a sensory and creative experience. They were encouraged to make choices, express themselves and investigate different colours, textures and patterns in a way that suited their individual needs and interests. Through painting, the children developed their fine motor skills, concentration and communication whilst enjoying a calm and engaging activity. These opportunities support creativity, confidence and emotional wellbeing, allowing every child to shine in their own unique way.

The children have been developing their fine motor skills through a variety of sensory and practical activities tailored to their individual needs. By squeezing, grasping, threading, pinching and manipulating different resources, they are strengthening the small muscles in their hands and improving coordination and control. These important skills support communication, independence and future writing development, whilst providing enjoyable opportunities for exploration, engagement and success.

Outdoor learning provides valuable opportunities for the children to explore, regulate and engage with the world around them. Through sensory experiences, physical activities and child-led discovery, the children develop communication, confidence and independence whilst benefiting from the calming effects of nature. The outdoor environment offers a rich and motivating space where every child can learn, play and thrive in a way that supports their individual needs and interests.

As part of our phonics learning, the children have been exploring environmental sounds through a range of engaging and sensory experiences. By listening to and identifying sounds from the world around them, they are developing their attention, listening and communication skills. These activities support auditory awareness and help children build the foundations needed for speech, language and early reading, whilst encouraging curiosity and enjoyment through play-based learning.
