We sing lots of nursery rhymes to help children develop their speaking and listening skills. We teach the sounds that go with all the letters and some pairs of letters (sh, ch, th, ng, nk) and children begin to learn how to blend sounds together to read words and segment the sounds in words to spell and write their ideas.
We learn the sounds for each of the letters or groups of letters.
When children are secure with some of the Set 1 sounds, they start to learn how to blend sounds together to read words.
